Is anyone doing any research into the role of muscle clocks in CFS/ME? I read that research over the last fifteen has discovered the existence of muscle clocks that help guide the body’s sleep cycle in addition to the clocks located in the brain. Anaerobic respiration in the muscles sends a signal to avoid sleep – the rest and repair phase. If I have understood correctly, researchers are saying that the muscles of people with CFS are more frequently fuelled by anaerobic respiration leading to a build up of lactic acid. Could the unrefreshing sleep experienced by so many patients be mediated by a conflict between the muscle clocks and the central brain-based clocks?
